Application process

Joining the network.

1

Referral / Application

Applications are welcomed through existing-member referrals or directly through the CAN website. We look for accomplished professionals, entrepreneurs, technologists, business leaders and investors who can contribute meaningfully to the network.

2

Online Application

Complete the membership application with your professional background, areas of expertise and investment interests.

3

Interaction

The CAN team will interact with you to understand your interest in angel investing, ability to participate in startup investments and potential contribution to the network.

4

Approval

Membership is subject to approval in accordance with CAN's membership process.

5

Onboarding

Approved members are onboarded through the Accubate platform and execute the Membership Framework Agreement governing participation, investment processes, responsibilities and commercial terms.

6

Membership Fee

The annual Individual Membership fee is ₹25,000 plus applicable taxes. Eligible close family members and permitted family investment entities may join under the applicable Family Membership terms at ₹10,000 per annum plus applicable taxes.

Investment process

From screening to exit support.

1

Initial Screening & Shortlisting

Startup applications are screened by the CAN team against our investment criteria. Shortlisted opportunities undergo deeper business and technology evaluation with relevant domain experts and, where appropriate, site visits and detailed founder interactions.

2

Investor Presentation

Selected startups present to CAN members in a hybrid format. Members independently evaluate the opportunity and indicate their preliminary investment interest.

3

Polling & Term Sheet

A detailed polling note is circulated to members. Where aggregate investor interest reaches the required threshold, CAN engages with the founders to negotiate the proposed investment structure, valuation and key investor rights.

4

Due Diligence

Following agreement on the term sheet, CAN appoints professional partners to undertake the agreed financial and legal due diligence. Findings are shared with participating investors and material issues are discussed with the founders.

5

Documentation & Funding

Definitive investment agreements are finalized and executed. Funds are transferred after completion of the agreed Conditions Precedent and other transaction requirements.

6

Board Observer & Portfolio Engagement

An investing member is nominated as Board Observer. The Board Observer and CAN team engage with the company through periodic reviews, governance oversight, mentoring, business connections and strategic inputs.

7

Follow-on & Exit Support

CAN supports portfolio companies in preparing for subsequent funding rounds and, where appropriate, facilitates discussions relating to follow-on investments and potential liquidity opportunities.

Code of conduct

Built on professionalism and trust.

Campus Angels Network is built on professionalism, trust and responsible participation. Members are expected to:

Professionalism & Respect. Treat fellow members, founders, ecosystem partners and the CAN team with professionalism, courtesy and respect.

Confidentiality. Protect all non-public information received through CAN and use it only for the purpose for which it was shared.

Compliance & Accountability. Follow CAN policies, investment processes and applicable agreements, disclose relevant conflicts of interest and take independent responsibility for investment decisions.

Responsible Engagement. Engage constructively with founders and other members and uphold the reputation and interests of CAN when representing the network.

Why it matters

Founders share their plans, financials and technology with our members in good faith.

How each member handles that trust is what earns CAN the confidence of founders, incubators and co-investors, and what keeps the strongest opportunities coming to the network.

Guidelines & responsibilities

Membership essentials.

Individual Membership. Membership is granted to individuals in their personal capacity. Investments may be made through permitted family members or investment entities only in accordance with CAN's Family Membership framework and applicable documentation.

Admission. Membership is subject to CAN's approval process. Members should have the financial capacity and risk appetite appropriate for high-risk early-stage investments, and each member independently evaluates and decides whether to participate in any opportunity — and is free to decline any opportunity.

Member Expectations. Participate meaningfully in the network's investment activities, actively evaluate opportunities and participate regularly in investments that align with your interests, mentor portfolio companies where relevant, represent CAN at selected events when requested and help identify promising startups, members and relationships.

Carry Fee. A carry fee of 10% of the upside realised on exit is applicable. For investments of ₹25 lakh and above in a startup, the carry fee is reduced to 5% of the upside realised on exit.

Risk & Responsibility. Angel investments involve significant risk, including the possibility of loss of the entire investment. CAN facilitates access, evaluation and transaction processes but does not provide investment advice or guarantee outcomes. Each member remains responsible for their own investment decisions.

Termination. Membership may be discontinued in accordance with the Membership Framework Agreement, including for non-payment of fees or material breach of obligations. Membership fees already paid are non-refundable.

FAQ

Membership questions.

How can I become a member of Campus Angels Network?
You may apply through an existing-member referral, directly through the CAN website or by writing to info@thecampusangels.com. We evaluate applicants based on professional background, investment capability, alignment with CAN's values and the expertise or networks they can bring to the community.
What is expected of a CAN member?
Members are expected to participate actively in the network, evaluate opportunities and participate regularly in investments that align with their interests, contribute relevant expertise to portfolio companies, maintain confidentiality, disclose conflicts of interest and support the network through appropriate introductions and ecosystem engagement.
Do I need to sign an undertaking?
Yes. Every member executes a Membership Framework Agreement that sets out the membership terms, investment process, responsibilities, confidentiality requirements and applicable commercial terms.
How long does it typically take to achieve an exit?
Angel investing requires patience. A typical investment horizon may be five to seven years or longer, depending on the company, sector, funding journey and market conditions. There is no assurance of an exit or return, and early-stage investments can result in partial or total loss of capital.
What is expected when I represent CAN at an event?
Members representing CAN should act in the interests of the network, communicate CAN's positioning accurately, avoid conflicts between personal promotion and the CAN role, and share relevant opportunities or key takeaways with the CAN team after the event.
